Polycarbonates (PC) represent a range of high-tech engineering polymers. The combination of exceptional characteristics of polycarbonate led to the use of this material in many areas of science and technology as a replacement for metal alloys and various types of glass. Polycarbonate is processed by all known methods, but mainly by extrusion and injection moulding.

Polycarbonate production and scope

To make polycarbonate en masse, and as a result, to use, began in the seventies of the last century. Its production was carried out in the following way: polycondensation of carbonic acid diphenylopropane chloride occurred. It is precisely due to the fact that the components of the above carbonic acid are polycarbonate, this material got its name.

PC is used in automotive and instrument making, in electrical, household and medical equipment, instrument and aircraft building, industrial and civil construction. The material has found its application and gained popularity not only in construction, architecture, advertising and design, but also in agriculture (in the construction of greenhouses, hangars, greenhouses, winter gardens), medicine (Petri dishes, filters and containers for blood transfusion and storage, various surgical instruments), consumer goods (mobile and office equipment cases, consumer goods, household, mobile and office equipment, kitchen utensils, disposable dishes), light and optical equipment (elements of street advertising, diffusers of automobile headlights and street lamps) in the production of sports equipment, triplex glasses, protective equipment (glasses, helmets,). Polycarbonate is recommended for precision casting: gears, bushings, optical lenses. Polycarbonate is painted by catalogs RAL, Pantone or the sample provided by the client. Nowadays, the range of uses of this type of materials is incredibly wide. Of course, due to its physicotechnical data, polycarbonate is of particular popularity in construction.
